When is the 2010 Florida Sales Tax Holiday?
Florida will host their second sales tax holiday in 2010 starting at 12:01 a.m. on August 13 through midnight on August 15. The first sales tax holiday was in 2007, but Florida did not have a sales tax holiday in 2008 or 2009. Retailers will not charge sales tax and local option taxes (or discretionary sales surtax) on qualifying items during the tax free days. Those selling items in the Panama City and Panama City Beach may still charge a merchant’s license fee on items sold during this time.
This sales tax holiday does not apply to items that are sold in a(n):
- Theme park (including Disney World)
- Entertainment complex
- Public lodging establishment
- Airport
What Items are Exempt From Tax in the Florida Sales Tax Holiday?
In general the sales tax holiday applies to clothing and books up to a limit of $50 and certain school supplies and accessories up to a limit of $10. Clothing that is rented does not qualify for the exemption from sales tax.
